Imperial Armour 9: A Review of the First Part of the Badab War
Imperial Armour 9 is a book published by Forge World, a subsidiary of Games Workshop, that covers the first part of the Badab War, a conflict that erupted in the M41 millennium between several renegade and loyalist Space Marine Chapters. The book is written by Alan Bligh and features detailed histories, profiles, rules and artwork of the nine Chapters that played the most significant role in the early stages of the war.
The book is divided into four sections: Introduction, The Badab War, The Renegades and The Loyalists. The Introduction provides an overview of the Warhammer 40,000 universe, the role of the Space Marines and the origins of the Badab War. The Badab War section narrates the events that led to the rebellion of the Astral Claws Chapter and their allies, and the response of the Imperium to quell their uprising. The Renegades section focuses on the four Chapters that sided with the Astral Claws: the Fire Hawks, the Marines Errant, the Raptors and the Lamenters. The Loyalists section covers the five Chapters that fought against them: the Red Scorpions, the Novamarines, the Fire Angels, the Howling Griffons and the Minotaurs.
The book is richly illustrated with colour profiles, maps, posters and artwork by various artists. It also contains rules for using the featured Chapters in games of Warhammer 40,000, as well as special characters, vehicles and weapons. The book is a must-have for fans of Space Marines and their lore, as well as for collectors and hobbyists who want to recreate the battles of the Badab War on their tabletops.
The Badab War was sparked by a combination of factors, including the isolation and autonomy of the Maelstrom Warders, a group of Space Marine Chapters that guarded the region against the threats of the Maelstrom, a massive Warp Storm. The Warders were led by the Astral Claws and their ambitious Chapter Master Lufgt Huron, who sought to expand his influence and resources in the face of increasing pirate raids and xenos invasions. Huron also resented the interference and demands of the Imperium, especially the Administratum and the Inquisition, who questioned his actions and requested tithes of gene-seed and manpower.
Huron's defiance eventually led him to refuse to pay the tithes and to declare his independence from the Imperium, along with three other Chapters: the Lamenters, the Executioners and the Mantis Warriors. These Chapters became known as the Secessionists, while those who remained loyal to the Imperium were called the Loyalists. The Loyalists were initially composed of four Chapters: the Fire Hawks, the Marines Errant, the Red Scorpions and the Raptors. They were later joined by several other Chapters, such as the Salamanders, the Fire Angels, the Novamarines, the Howling Griffons, the Sons of Medusa, the Exorcists, the Minotaurs, the Star Phantoms and the Carcharodons.
The war lasted for more than a decade and involved numerous battles across various planets, star systems and space stations. The Secessionists proved to be formidable opponents, as they had access to advanced technology, ancient relics and secret bases. They also had allies among some rogue traders, pirates and renegade Imperial forces. The Loyalists faced many challenges and setbacks, such as internal rivalries, logistical problems and political intrigues. They also had to contend with the harsh environment of the Maelstrom Zone and its many dangers. ec8f644aee
